It is simple and delicious

Today mom cooked a classic "Torta" for "Family Home Evening", a recipe that for a century puts smiles in faces of those that taste it, a cake that her mother did always for the children. It is simple & delicious!

Ingredients:

150g or 1 1/3 All purpose flour
300g or 1 1/3 Sugar
6 Eggs
Tsp of baking powder

Preheat over to 350º F. Beat egg whites until stiff. Blend egg yolks with sugar and add to it the white eggs, flour and the baking powder. Mix all ingredients. Pour into a 9" x 13" greased cake pan. Bake for approximately 40 minutes until the wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Immediately loosen cake from edge of pan; invert on towel generously sprinkled with sugar. Spread on top strawberry jam or other jam of your choice. While still hot carefully role cake and towel from narrow end.

Let it cool from 15 minutes and remove the towel. Enjoy it and have you also a happy "Family Home Evening"

Do you really know how to do that?

This winter in Europe the trend for clothing and other accessories is knitting , it is all over in display at the most popular stores in Germany.  This was something we use to see when we were in our teens, the only difference then is, that it was produced by our mothers and grandmothers, today they are made most likely somewhere in a factory in Asia . In a walk downtown Frankfurt, Germany the other day my wife said, "I would like to stop to buy some knitting needles and some wool, I would like to knit a scarf" , with a surprised expression I said, "do you know how to do that?" She replied in a mild tone, "my mom did, and my grandmother as well, and they taught me when I was young" , to which I then somewhat unconvinced I said, "OK... why not!" For next couple of days I saw her knitting at a fast pace and things began quickly to take shape and form, first a base for some plates, next a couple of flowers, then a trendy scarf ju

It is not the change of season but our capacity to see beauty in the change!

Römerberg, Frankfurt - March 9, 2013 Just a few days ago the scenario of spring we found at downtown Frankfurt was marvelous, the sun was shining and blue skies were clearly on the background. We of course enjoyed the first sings of spring and savored the occasion. Just a few days latter the skies turned grey and a significant snow storm caused complete chaos in traffic and quickly the winter reins again and spring is gone, but there is beauty and life in the white landscapes as well! Kurk Park, Bad Homburg - March 12, 2013 Isn't life like this many times, when we think is spring all the sudden it turns winter again.  Often is not the change of season but our capacity to see beauty in the change that makes the difference!

All things have become new!

"Old things are done away, and all things have become new.", 3 Nephi 12:47 . A declaration of Jesus that he fulfilled the law of Moses and that his teachings are a new blueprint, or plan, to pattern our lives after His life. In this first day of the year, we often set new goals to put away old things, old habits and turn new all that is around us and ahead of us. Here is a list of 10 things based on a higher plane of thought that can help us set the right goals and focus on the right things in 2011   1. Believe   2. Humility   3. Meekness   4. Hunger and thirst after righteousness   5. Pure in heart   6. Peacemakers   7. Salt of the earth   8. Light to the people   9. Keep my commandments   10. Honesty
