Valentine: A written or other artistic work, message, token, etc., expressing affection for someone. (dictionary .com).

So here it goes for my dear wife an expression of affection in the form of a poem in the language of the great poet Luis de Camões.

Happy Valentine

A tua companhia continua doce e terna
porque nunca perdeste o sentido de servir e amar
que bom que nossa relação é eterna
e nossa amizade e amor não vai parar.

(Original poem created by José A. Teixeira on valentine's day of 2011)

Two references to set 2018 resolutions

As we set new resolutions we use points of reference to determine the right direction of our goal setting efforts.

We know that once we are on the right way, "half of the way is actually done".

We essentially look at two points of reference as we set our goals:

Point of reference #1:
Current teachings of living prophets

Question:  Are my goals in harmony with the current teachings of living prophets?

Point of reference #2:
Personal and Family Statement

Question: Will my goals help me progress in one or more of my personal and family purpose statement?

What about spiritual prosperity?

Many have looked at prosperity solely from a financial perspective, thus to prosper in this narrow vision of things one looks only to the external signs of wealth and consequently soon after the focus becomes on material possessions or the fix idea of having them. Inevitably this arrangement leads to feelings of envy, greed and selfishness and creates an enormous distance between us and the needs of our fellow men, including our families as time is not allocated any longer to what matters most but to what we want the most.
What about spiritual prosperity?
A clear understanding that we are children of an Heavenly Father that loves us, that He has a plan of happiness for us which through the atonement of Jesus Christ and our faithfulness allows us to return to Him, and an understanding that He gave us commandments to help us face the adversities of life will guide us to a path of gratitude for everything we have, even when we have little material possessions we will have a sense of …

Two words, One meaning

As parents we used in our day to day vocabulary two Portuguese words more often than any others, recently I have been thinking why?

In spite of being two very distinct words, they seemed to serve always an identical purpose or objective, at least for us they conveyed similar meaning as we raised our children.
Cuidado- A word to warn us that ahead are obstacles or challenges that can be prevented if precautions are taken along the way, a form of showing concern and care, of calling our attention for something important, of being thoughtful and aware of how precious life is . Calma- A word that invites to slow a little to avoid problems that can be encountered if we rush too fast into things, a sister word of tranquility and peace.
At first it might seem these words imparted a sense of fear or lack of confidence in what lays ahead, but as I look in retrospective as a parent, they meant exactly the opposite, we used them because we really saw the opportunities of life in front of us if w…
